While American and Chinese humanoids hog the headlines, a German company out of Metzingen has quietly assembled the best-funded robotics play in Europe — and its flagship humanoid is now taking real orders at real prices.
NEURA Robotics’ 4NE1 / 4NE1 Mini line covers both ends of the market: a full-size industrial humanoid and a compact research platform. What makes NEURA different from most of the field isn’t a viral dance video — it’s a €1 billion-plus order book, transparent pricing, and a June 2026 Series C of up to $1.4 billion backed by Tether, Qualcomm, Amazon, NVIDIA, Bosch, and Schaeffler. That is the largest raise ever by a full-stack robotics company.
The industrial play: 4NE1 Gen 3.5
The Gen 3.5, styled with Studio F.A. Porsche, is a 180 cm, ~80 kg humanoid built for factory floors. Its headline number is payload: 100 kg maximum lift — the highest of any general-purpose humanoid on the market, and four times what the Optimus Gen 3 carries. Dual hot-swappable batteries give 6–8 hours per pack, which means true 24/7 shift coverage if you swap on the fly.
Under the skin: an NVIDIA Thor T5000 running the Isaac GR00T foundation model, seven cameras for 360° perception, force-torque sensing in every joint, and NEURA’s patented artificial skin that detects proximity before contact happens. The whole machine is water-cooled for sustained industrial duty.
Pricing is public — a rarity in this industry. €98,000 for single units, dropping to €60,000 each for fleets of 20 or more, with a fully refundable €100 reservation. First deliveries are expected at the end of 2026.
The research play: 4NE1 Mini
The Mini shrinks the same cognitive stack into a 132 cm, 36 kg package: 25 DOF, 3 kg payload, about 2.5 hours of runtime, and a €19,999 price tag. It has been shipping since April 2026 and is squarely aimed at university labs and developers who want a Western alternative to budget Chinese platforms. Both variants ship with Python and C++ SDKs plus a ROS 2 interface.
The moat: Neuraverse
NEURA’s real bet is software. The Neuraverse is a shared-intelligence platform: when one NEURA robot learns a task, the skill propagates to every connected robot. The company is also rolling out “NEURA Gyms” — real-world training environments for cognitive robots — and targets serial production in the millions of units by 2030.
How it stacks up
The competitive frame the figure shows is telling — pardon the pun. Against the current field:
- Figure 03 holds the deployment crown with its documented BMW production work, but at ~25 kg payload it plays a different game than the 4NE1’s heavy-lift niche.
- Optimus Gen 3 undercuts everyone on target price but remains Tesla-internal until at least late 2026.
- Electric Atlas is going enterprise-first with Boston Dynamics’ usual closed contracts.
- China’s volume players — AgiBot G1, Walker S2, and the $13,500 Unitree G1 — win on price and availability, but NEURA counters with EU manufacturing, support, and the 100 kg payload none of them touch.
- Fourier’s GR-2 and the newer Fourier GR-3 are the closest “cognitive care robot” philosophical match, at lower payload classes.
The HCHQ take
NEURA is doing three things almost nobody else in humanoids does: publishing prices, taking refundable reservations, and naming its industrial partners. The 4NE1 Gen 3.5 is not the cheapest way to put a humanoid on your floor — it is currently the strongest one, and the only European option with a billion-dollar order book behind it. If deliveries land on schedule at the end of 2026, the humanoid race stops being a two-country contest.
